Tonight is "Thank you Cito Night" at Roger Centre, the Jays last home game of the season and the last time Cito Gaston will manage this team at home as the one year contract he insisted upon is up and he says, he is retiring from baseball. The half hour ceremony MC-ed by the radio voice of the Jays, Jerry Howarth preceded tonight's game with tribute videos and speeches from the team brass including the always interesting Paul Beeston, President and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays. Joe Carter representing the World Series winning teams made a speech, as did and Vernon Wells representing the current roster.
The Jays fly to Minneapolis Minnesota tonight for a 4 game set with the Twins to end the year. Game one starts tomorrow night at 8:10 PM EDT and will not be on Sportsnet but rather on Sportsnet-ONE.
With 5 games remaining, this game is the second last game to be broadcast on Sportsnet. Three out of the four remaining games will only be available on Sportsnet-ONE, the new premium ($$$) sports channel which Rogers Communications Inc. is offering as a free preview this month - but which isn't available from all cable service providers yet as they and Rogers negotiate with with us fans in the middle as chips in a 'who will blink first' game - like Cogeco Cable for example. Another way in which Rogers marketing division dropped the ball on this one was by not making the channel free with out asking, as at this writers address and many others addresses I assume, where the landlord has control of the cable account, and has chosen not ask for the free preview because they couldn't care a less what baseball games are or aren't on. :(

New York Yankees v Toronto Blue Jays
Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario
7:07 PM EDT
Starting Pitchers: RHP Javier Vazquez (10-9, 5.07 ERA) v Brett Cecil (14-7, 4.20 ERA)
Notes:
1st Inning
All the players have drawn Cito mustaches on their upper lips for the start the game! :|)
Travis Snider, leading off and wearing his 'Cito 'stache', hits a home run - that means he'll have to wear it until something happens that says the superstition has run it's coarse.
2nd Inning
Snider gets a base hit RBI in his second plate appearance; 2 for 2 with the 'stache, Buck says he'll have to wear it for the rest of the season now. But the 'stache is starting to run down his lip, looks BAD, it's not water proof make-up I guess, but it's staying for now by the looks of it. (In the forth Snider grounds out to the pitcher and that's enough to break the magic and the 'stache goes.)
Rogers Sportsnet announcer's Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler are sitting in the big comfy Toronto Dominion Bank sofa chairs on the first base line just past the dugout as part of Thank You Cito Night. Buck says in the first that they're awefuly close. Pat chimes in, "I don't know whether to look at my monitor or the game".
A foul ball can get to the seats mighty fast where they're sitting.
Then in the second, Joe Carter is sitting in during the inning, on the announcers left, closest to the plate - and he catches a scorching line drive heading right for Bucks head!
He says he wasn't even wearing his glove, "it was just sitting on my lap". He lifted it instinctively for protection, and the ball hit the pocket! He tosses it over his head as greedy fans sitting right behind immediately start reaching into the big comfy seats area, 'Give-me, Give-me' they jest. What? Because Joe once hit a home run to win a World Series he can never, for the rest of his life, be a fan sitting in the stands in Toronto? And because we put him on a pedestal he will always owe us? (as that is the nature of God/Plebeian relationship in this modern culture). Pathetic. He should have been allowed to keep that one.
