George M. Steinbrenner Field, Tampa, Florida
1:05 PM Saturday March 19, 2011
80 degrees, sunny. Wind: nil
This game has gone into extras - but this scorecard isn't yet set up to add innings. I don't expect they'll go more than the 10th, as it's coming up on the 3 hour mark and broadcasters have that amount of time blocked for this spring training match.
I'm listening to the game on the FAN590 Toronto and I'll continue to keep you updated here.
The game is called after 10 innings. Game time: 3 hours and 1 minute.
Oh! I see MLB has a box score up; I didn't check there after the game started. Would have made this a lot easier. I missed ALL the substitutions in this game! (MLB box score is here: http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/news/boxscore.jsp?gid=2011_03_19_tormlb_nyamlb_1).
MLB score counted 11 hits for the Bombers so thast means I've got an extra hit somewhere in the scorecard for them.
Also MLB has an error is scored on the Jays, I scored the error but didn't include it in the totals because I wasn't aware it was scored as such by the official scorer (when a error is recorded in brackets here that means it my scoring, not official).
The error was Eth on CF Anthony Gose in the 6th inning throw to the plate that was over the cut-off man's glove and off the plate to the 1B side. The batter runner Eduardo Nunez went all the way to third on the play. He did not score in the inning. A proper cut-able throw would have kept him at first.
Perhaps there should have been three errors scored on the play: first Gose over threw the cut-off man, second the pitcher wasn't backing up home - so E1, and third, the throw was so bad that one wonders that even though Gose dearly wants to make the club, and by all accounts will one day, he should know the limits of his abilities better than that and shouldn't have even tried to make that throw on that play. :)
Or maybe he slipped.
