Wow! What a day of baseball!
Roy Halladay just pitched a post season no-hitter against Cincinnati and the guy Halladay replaced in Philadelphia, Cliff Lee shut down the Tampa Bay Rays with authority in the early game. The year of the pitcher is really showing up in the post season; I expect more of the same.
Of the four teams I've watched play today I really like the Phillies; three Ace pitchers and an unending, unstoppable line-up, no weaknesses, no little chinks in the armor like you can detect here and there in the other 7 teams.
Game Schedule - ALDS New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins
New York Yankees @ Minnesota Twins - Game 1
Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Wednesday, October 6th, 2010
8:37 PM EDT
Starting pitchers:
New York Yankees
Minnesota Twins
Umpires:
Home - Jerry Crawford
First Base - Hunter Wendelstedt
Second Base - Greg Gibson
Third Base - Brian Onora
Game Notes:
Bottom of the 3rd
Mauer hit the ball hard between 1st and 2nd Teixeira has to dive for it and stops it, he gets up and has to run and dive to beat Mauer to the bag for the force; Orlando Hudson rounding second sees what's about to happen with the play at first and takes off for 3rd - he's safe with out a throw. Next pitch is a pass ball that plates him. Great base running!
Top of the 6th*
Granderson hit the ball high off the score board in right centre (looks like the thing is about 30 feet high, didn't see where it hit but it looked like a ball coming off the green monster at Fenway), it was a towering shot that took forever to come down and with two out the runners were going on the sound of the bat - the speedy Granderson avancing all the way to 3rd base was way behind the plated runs - almost like it was a different play.
Bottom of 9th**
Gerardi's defensive replacement in right, Greg Golson makes a beautiful catch at the turf striding full out. All six umpires including the one on the right field line out there get it wrong and Delmon Young is ruled safe at first. Next pitch to Jim Thome is a pop to 3B foul, third out.
