Toronto Blue Jays @ Minnesota Twins - Game 4 of 4

This is the last game of the 2010 regular season for all teams in MLB.

The American League standing are set except that Tampa and New York are tied; wins and loses today win determine not if they go to post season play - only where. The wild card placement will play these same Minnesota twins in the first round.

A bazaar finish in the National League today could result in 2 separate 1 game play-offs. If San Fransisco loses and the Braves and Padres win the result would be a three way tie. This could result in two, 1 game play off double header - which they'd have to play at the appropriate home fields!

At 1:35 PM EDT, at Turner Field, Atlanta is facing the Philadelphia Phillies. Here's the Box Score as of 4:34 PM EDT - the final:

Inn. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
PHI 0 0 2 0 0 0 2 3 0 7 5 0
ATL 0 0 1 4 2 1 0 0 x 8 14 2

San Diego is at San Fransisco a 4:05 PM EDT start.

Here's the standing as of the start of today's schedule:

Toronto Blue Jays @ Minnisota Twins - Game 4
October 3, 2010

Score Card Coding update

This score card has code breaks in it that hide 9 extra innings of AB boxes and the code that expands the /innings totals boxes, the pitchers lines. The code breaks can be removed in the code in the time it takes to come back from the commercial break between the 9th and 10th inning.

If anyone wants to have a look at the new code or wants use it to score in their own blog - the code is available in a Google Doc by clicking on the button below. I checked the code at W3C Validation Service portal as a W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Strict Document type and it came back citing 7 errors that all say it doesn't like the tag "table". Well tough! (obviously I don't know what I'm doing, but it IS a table - if it's anything at all - and it works!)

Game Notes:

Fastest game EVER. Well not, but wow - that was fast! Game time: 2:01.

Jays finish 8 games over .500 - 85W - 77L. Very respectable.

Makes one wonder if this organization isn't quite a bit closer to feilding a contender next year than they have been in many years.

RBI are the key data point for this team that I would look at; that means making trades for guys with good averages and especially, exceptional OBP. 3B is a good place to make an improvement. Edwin Encarnacion has nice power numbers (20 HR, ), but .305 OBP is just horrible.

NL Wild Card Update

So Atlanta beat the Phillies (see box score above) and are thus presently a half game ahead of the San Diego Padres. If the Padre's beat Division rival San Fransisco all three teams will have identical 91-71 records, that means there will have to be two one game playoffs.

Box Score (ESPN) from San Fransisco at 5:05 PM EDT (end of the 3rd):

Inn 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
SD 0 0 0 0 2 0
SF 0 0 2 2 5 0
