A moment in history happened in Philadelphia tonight, Roy Halladay pitched a no-hitter, his second this calendar year, beating the Cincinnati Reds in the first game of the National League Division Series 4-0.
I scored the game live from the first pitch to last below; check out how semetrical the innings look - 1,2 3, next inning 4,5,6, next inning,7,8,9. Right away you can see the bsae on balls in the fifth that ruins the perfect game, and the symmetry. I "bolded" the scoring notations in Halladay's innings so the beauty of it would be easier to see for people who aren't used to reading score cards.
Very cool; this was the first time I happened to be scoring when a no-hitter was thrown.

Barely had time to set up this game after the 1:30 game (ALDS Texas Rangers at Tampa Bay Rays) even though that one ended in good time. Some games are obviously going to have to be sacrificed to the baseball gods in order that I can eat and stuff. :)

Game Notes:
5th Inning
The TBS play-by-play guy doesn't avoid the euphemism, but the colour guy won't say it. Hmmm. Don't like the fact that he just comes out and says it.
6th Inning
After Phillips flies out to right the play-by-play guy does it again! The only excuse he has is that there are three less outs to 27 for Christ's sake. Makes me wonder though if anyone has ever tested the theory. This could be the test, but the only way it will work as a test is if Halladay actually does it.
9th Inning
Roy Halladay pitches a no hitter with 1 BB, one base runner the whole game on 104 pitches, 79 for strikes.
So that's the test; saying "no-hitter" while a pitcher is throwing a no-hitter doesn't jinx it.

You are scoring your catcher putouts wrong - they should be 2-3, not 1-3 (;ike on the last out of the game)
ReplyDeleteBTW got a real live scorecard - at the game in person! It was awesome!
Thanks Harv, Yeah I noticed that some time ago - haven't gotten around to fixing it - there must be other mistakes too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the comment; good to know there are scorercard-ers out there checking up on me. :)
