The Texas Rangers are a great team and I really like the way Ron Washington has molded a team for the post juiced ball era - lots of base running: stolen bases, taking the extra base, reading the defense, reading the ball. Good to see a return to a more complex game in the 3 run homer league.
But the Yankees are going to kill these guys, they don't have the pitching to match up, and I haven't even mentioned hitting yet. Ouch!
Game Schedule - American League Championship Series

ALCS Game 1 - New York Yankees @ Texas Rangers
Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
Friday, October 15, 2010
8:00 PM EDT
Weather: Clear, 84°F | 29°C
Wind: 3 mph | 4 kph LR
Starting pitchers:
New York Yankees
Umpires:
Home - Gerry Davis
First Base - Tony Randazzo
Second Base - Jim Reynolds
Third Base - Angel Hernandez
Game Notes:
If you can believe this - there is NO coverage of this game in the Toronto area!! Sportnet, "Your source for every MLB Postseason Game!" is showing a game with player who have sticks and are skating if you can believe it. The radio FAN590 all sports radio is doing CFL Football.
Luckily, I'm getting WCBS from NYC which is skipping off the ionosphere, fading in and out like the crystal radio that you had when you were a kid - it had no battery, you'd just attach the wire to a good ground source, like the hot water radiator, and listen though an earpiece on the AM frequency - which it barely picked up. But it was "magic", it had no battery - it derived it's power from the radio signal itself. A few years later, the mid 1970's living near London Ontario, I used to listen to the Cleveland Cavaliers on 3WE out of Erie Pennsylvania.
I love listening on long distance radio especially from distances that it's not supposed to cover, like WWWE and WCBS from New York City - but what is wrong with Toronto and broadcasting baseball?
At the Game Schedule link above MLB says, and I quote, "In Canada, Rogers Sportsnet will broadcast all 2010 MLB Postseason games."
I notice the trend these days is towards pay for view. Now only an elite will be able to watch Postseason baseball? Not sure that's a good business model for popular sports.
In a larger sense, tiered information, based on ones ability to pay for it, is undemocratic; and for national governments, a dis-unifying force. I'd say this is a dangerous slope we're on with this.
