The Minnesota Twins Ron Gardenhire has decided to go with veteran starter Carl Pavano in what he is calling a crucial game two. New York counters with Andy Pettitte the post season vetran who missed 10 starts this year, missing all of August and half of September with a strained left groin. He had just 3 starts to get back into game shape before the end of the season.
Andy Pettitte's starts by date around the injury:
July 18th against Tampa Bay
August - none
September 19th against Baltimore
September 24th against Boston
October 2nd against Boston
Game Schedule - ALDS New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins
New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins - Game 2
Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Thursday, October 7th, 2010
6:07 PM EDT
Starting Pitchers:
Texas Rangers
Umpires:
Home - Hunter Wendelstedt
First Base - Greg Gibson
Second Base - Brian Onora
Third Base - Gary Darling
Game Notes:
Bottom of 1st
Ground ball back to Pettitte, he turns and throws to Jeter a little high, Span coming from first is bearing down on second, Jeter does what looks like an in the air bicycle pedaling over the bag as he catches the ball, as he catches he steps on the bag and in one motion skips off and plants and makes an accurate throw to Teixeira with just enough on it to complete the double play. Sweet.
Top of the 7th
Gardenhire get thrown out of the game for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt. The pitch before Berkman's 2 base hit to centre, which scored Posada, painted the inside corner of the plate, and looked closer to the centre of the plate on TV than the software showed (still a strike). Pavano set that pitch up, that was the out and much like the game in Florida earlier where does the battery go after you execute the out pitch in a pattern and it's called a ball? The next pitch if the batter is on the same page, is predictable and so it was as Berkman clobbers it.
Bottom of the 8th
Kerry Wood. Last night I noticed him, and tonight he's better - lights out. The same pitch looks like a completely different pitch because of the movement he's getting - and the location that the moving stuff goes to is making it impossible to decide if it's a strike or a ball; they're all strikes, or close enough. The curve is huge and right there for strikes.
Rivera is next.
Bottom of the 9th
On Delmon Young's scorcher to short with Mauer on first and no outs.
The ball was hit so hard it made the double play easy.
